Jason Scheff, Co-Director: Programming & Recruitment
Jason comes to the J from the Foundation for Jewish Camp, where he authored a guide for summer camp athletic directors to integrate sports programs into camp culture. Jason holds a bachelor's of science in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland, where he was a member on the Jewish Leadership Council at Hillel. Jason worked at Ramah Day Camp in Nyack for three summers, and then served as a Unit Head and Athletic Director for Ramah Sports Academy. A former assistant varsity basketball coach and Section 1 A-1 All-State basketball player at the Leffell School, Jason is motivated by combining his passions of sport and Jewish community into his work. In his free time, he loves playing and coaching basketball, finding New York City’s best pizza, and spending time with his family.
Tammy Burgus, Co-Director: Operations
For over twenty years, Tammy has dedicated herself to enriching the lives of children, both as a director at the Elmsford Day Camp and the Director of the Walter Panas High School Theater Company. A proud Navy veteran and mother, Tammy currently lives in Putnam Valley with her husband and their beloved fur-babies. In her free time, she enjoys diving into books and podcasts, immersing herself in theater, crafting, hitting the golf course, traveling, and cherishing moments with her family.
Alex Stoler
Alex is the Managing Director of the Tennis Club of Hastings. Well known as a dynamic coach and voracious student of the game, Alex is the former captain of the NYU tennis team where he earned All-American status during his collegiate career. Alex’s style blends an inner game approach with a strong focus on fundamentals and technique. Alex is a certified Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) professional and oversees all the tennis programming at TCH.
Conrado Torres
Born and raised in Venezuela, Coach C is a former collegiate and semi-professional soccer player. He earned the prestigious coaching certification from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). Conrado is an Assistant Coach for Hunter College Men’s Soccer team, and a Youth Program Coordinator for the New York Red Bulls. He is also the Founder and Executive Director of Flag Nation, a non-profit organization that empowers underserved young athletes by developing competence and life-skills through education and sports.
Jonathan Rampersad
Jonathan Rampersad is a passionate coach and educator with over 12 years of experience in youth sports. In 2013, he founded Rising Sport Stars, offering interactive basketball programs that combine skill development and fun.
Jonathan has led training sessions, clinics, and teams, and managed the basketball programs at Westchester Day School for five years.
He is committed to fostering confidence, teamwork, and a love for sports in every athlete he coaches. Jonathan holds an MA in Recreation Administration from Lehman College and continues to inspire the next generation of athletes.
Victor Penaloza
Victor is the head coach of Pace University’s swimming and diving team and the Shames JCC's Patriot Swim Team. He has experience coaching swimming for over 23 years. Victor’s passion for coaching and swimming has allowed him to bring his swimmers to some of the highest level of competitions in the sport, including national-level and Olympic trials. His experience has enabled him to develop athletes’ strokes and techniques to enhance their performances at meets.
Shomari Moore
Shomari is an accomplished fencer, NCAA qualifier, and medalist at the North American Championships (NAC). He has represented the U.S. in multiple international competitions, solidifying his place among the nation's top fencers.
With over 12 years of coaching experience, Shomari excels at recognizing and developing each student's potential. Recently, he led The Masters School's fencing team to gold in both men's and women's epee events. His commitment to his students and the sport has earned him wide respect in the fencing community.
Shomari is also active in giving back, volunteering with the Peter Westbrook Foundation and “Fencing in the Parks,” which offers free fencing classes to under-resourced Brooklyn communities.
